1. Scope

1.1 This test method provides standard procedures for testing mechanical splices for reinforcing bars. The different test procedures may be specified in total or used separately; depending on which criterion the mechanical splice is to be tested for.
1.2 The procedures in this standard are applicable to any type of mechanical splice manufactured to join standard reinforcing bars of any grade produced in accordance with ASTM A 615/A 615M or A 706/A 706M, galvanized reinforcing bars according to A 767 and epoxy-coated reinforcing bars according to A 775/A 775M and A 934/ A934M.
1.3 The values stated in either SI or inchpound units are to be regarded as standard. Within the text, the inch-pound units are shown in parentheses. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other.
