Description Related Products
1. Scope

1.1 This specification presents a standard representation for the structure and content of human name data that is independent of language or cultural constraints for use in health information systems. 1.2 This specification may be extended to include name data for nonhuman living things, such as being used in systems supporting veterinary medicine.1.3 This specification does not standardize policy or regulation concerning the use of this specification. It does not establish or standardize legal constraints over the use of a personĖs name in conjunction with healthcare clinical or business processes, nor does it establish or standardize personal privacy and system security provisions for the use of a personĖs name.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. This standard will promote data level interoperability and facilitate the integration of independent systems within a healthcare facility.
