New Guide for Standard Guide for the Selection of Test Methods and Security Ratings for Forced Entry and Ballistics Resistant (FEBR) Doors, Windows, Other Opening Protectives, Walls Ceilings, Roofs, and Other Fixed Barriers Comprising the Secure Parts of Building Exteriors and the Security Envelope of Secure Areas Inside Buildings
1. Scope
1.1 This guide addresses the use of test methods that cover Forced Entry and Ballistics Resistant (FEBR) walls, ceilings, roofs, doors, windows and other opening protectives of various materials and types of construction. These test methods address assemblies and systems that are intended for use in secure areas of buildings where protection against forced entry and firearms attacks is of high priority. 1.2 Assemblies investigated under these test methods include walls, ceilings, roofs, security frames, frame anchoring, doors and hardware, security glazing, panels, deal trays, pass drawers, HVAC louvers, grilles, roof hatches and other opening protectives. 1.3 These test methods are designed to test the capability of FEBR assemblies and systems to prevent, delay, and frustrate attempts to forcibly enter secure areas through building exteriors and secure areas within the interiors of buildings 1.4 These test methods are not designed to address other threats or attacks, such as, blast attack, or the long term attack of corrosive agents. 1.5 These test methods are also designed to test the capability of FEBR assemblies and systems to resist a ballistics attack of the type that would be expected from an attacker or group of attackers equipped with various firearms including military small arms. 1.6 These test methods apply to FEBR assemblies and systems that serve as protection for building exteriors and secure areas inside of buildings. 1.7 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. 1.8 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
