Given the increase in weight and corresponding size of patrons of amusement rides and devices, the mandate of this task force is to evaluate the effects of this change on the effectiveness of restraints (particularly class 4 and 5 restraints) and to provide, if necessary, guidance to designers, manufactures, and operators of amusement rides and devices. The initial approach is to add language to the non-mandatory Appendix of F2291 which will provide general guidance to designers, manufacturers, and operators while further research is being performed. Once research has been performed, additional action will be taken, depending on the results.
