ASTM WK47065

Revision of F2129 - 08 Standard Test Method for Conducting Cyclic Potentiodynamic Polarization Measurements to Determine the Corrosion Susceptibility of Small Implant Devices

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: F2129 - 08

Developed by Subcommittee: F04.15 | Committee F04 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK47065

    1. Rationale

The wording in X1.4 regarding the protection potential has been frequently misinterpreted particularly in the case of materials which do not repassivate in ASTM F2129. For this reason, this ballot proposes to remove this from X1.4 and add X1.8 which provides background information into the protection potential with literature references. In Section 10.7.4, the origional language makes it sound like Ef is defined as Er. Language more consistent with 10.7.1 is proposed. Lastly, an editorial change is proposed to the corrected adjusting of pH of the solution that was agreed to a few meetings ago.
