Several changes are proposed in this ballot item: Move dimensional requirements currently in ASTM C1319, requirements for maximum dimensions and minimum thickness are included in the scope. These requirements should be located in Section 5 on physical requirements. No changes to the limitations (maximum dimensions of 24 inches, minimum thickness of 3 1/8 in.) are proposed, simply moving these requirements. Comparison to specified dimensions Currently, ASTM C1319 requires comparing dimensions of these units to approved samples for length and width, and to specified standard dimensions for thickness. Other concrete masonry specifications compare actual dimensions to specified dimensions. Units are manufactured to meet the specified dimensions, and as such actual measurements should be compared to those. These changes are proposed in Section 6.1. Percent solid vs. net area currently, ASTM C1319 requires that grid pavers have a net area of 50% or greater. Net area, however, is measured and reported in square inches, rather than percentage. This requirement is intended to assure there is enough solid material in the cross-section of the unit. This requirement is more appropriately termed percent solid, which is the ratio of net cross-sectional area to gross cross-sectional area. This value is reported in percentage. This ballot proposes to modify Table 1 to change net area to percent solid.
