ASTM WK47039

Revision of C1197 - 09 Standard Test Method for In Situ Measurement of Masonry Deformability Properties Using the Flatjack Method

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: C1197 - 14a

Developed by Subcommittee: C15.04 | Committee C15 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Rationale

The word shim is used in the standard to represent an item inserted into a flatjack slot prior to testing to minimize the inflation of the test flatjack. The word spacer is intended to be used to describe metal plates used in the calibration process to control flatjack thickness. However, these terms are not currently used consistently in the Standard. The purpose of this ballot is to replace the term shim with the word spacer in two locations in section 7.3 and in Fig. 3 in order to be consistent with the usage of these terms in this standard. There is separate related ballot item for the addition of a terminology section in this Standard. A similar ballot item is proposed for the corresponding language in ASTM C1196, Standard Test Method for In Situ Compressive Stress Within Solid Unit Masonry Estimated Using Flatjack Measurements
