    1. Rationale

    section 8.5.1 shaft or sleeve surface finish non-pusher seals should be 32 rms to 64 rms (0.80 um to 1.60 um). Reason: in order to seal properly non-pusher seals require a minimum shaft or sleeve finish Section 7.1.3a add: Some leakage may occur between the seal faces upon startup. If leakage is less than 30 drops a minute this should improve as the faces run-in. If leakage is greater than 30 drops a minute, then the seal, equipment and/or the operating conditions should be examined to determine the probable cause for the leakage. If the seal installation is determined to be the root cause of the leakage, then the seal should be inspected for nicked or cut O-rings, misaligned seal faces halves, chipped or cracked seal faces, or any other issues that may cause the leakage. Reason: section 7.1.3 required additional clarity on seal leakage at start up Section S5.7.3 Design Requirements add 3rd sentence: Pump hydrostatic test pressure shall not exceed the maximum pressure rating of the split mechanical seal. Reason: Section S5.7.3 needed additional information on hydrostatic test pressure limits
