    1. Scope

    Test method for determination of the oxidation resistance of non-oxide monolithic advanced ceramics at elevated temperatures. This test method provides an assessment of the mass and dimensional changes of test specimens following oxidation at elevated temperature in an oxidizing atmosphere, and to assess whether oxidation has a significant effect on the subsequent strength. This test method may be used for materials development, quality control, characterization, and design data generation purposes.

    Oxidation is a critical deteriorative aspect of advanced ceramics that must be assessed for long term use of these materials in engineering applications. Industrial users, materials producers, government agencies
