ASTM WK46847

Revision of C172 / C172M - 14 Standard Practice for Sampling Freshly Mixed Concrete

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: C172 / C172M - 14

Developed by Subcommittee: C09.60 | Committee C09 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK46847

    1. Rationale

This is to address concerns by negative voters that the newly adopted language in 5.2.4 Sampling from Continuous Mixers Sample the concrete after the mixture has achieved uniformity of color and texture following all mix proportioning adjustments. is too subjective. The negatives were withdrawn, with the agreement that we would take this up as new business. This revision provides more precise and objective criteria, that ensures that any samples taken will be after all adjustments have been made, and that adjusted concrete has reached the discharge point. The 5 cubic feet minimum was recommended by representatives of the continuous mixer community. This was successfully balloted in the subcommittee, with a result of 78-1-16 and the one negative was found non-persuasive. This new version includes the SI units left out of the previous version.
