ASTM WK46734

Revision of F1972 - 13 Standard Guide for Terminology Relating to Candles and Associated Accessory Items

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: F1972 - 13

Developed by Subcommittee: F15.45 | Committee F15 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK46734

    1. Rationale

The current definitions for burn cycle and burn period are not appropriate for all of the candle standards included in this book. We are proposing the following changes to these two definitions. Proposed revision to Burn cycle: the length of time from when the candle is lit to when the candle is manually extinguished (typically 4 hours). The current definition is length of time the candle is burned during one test day. For this test, a burn cycle is 4 h (see Specification F 2417). Proposed revision to Burn period: the total length of time a candle is burned to complete the specified test. The current definition is total time the candle is burned over the duration of the test. For this test, the burn period will be 16 h. The subcommittee voted unanimously (13-0-0) to approve these changes.
