    1. Scope

    This document provides guidance on writing a specification for absorbable metallic materials intended for surgical implant applications.

    This guide is needed in order to characterize important metallurgical properties and test methods that can be used to develop future absorbable metallic material specifications. The users are expected to include alloy suppliers, manufacturers of abosrbable metallic surgical implants, quality control engineers, and the FDA.
