ASTM WK46300

Revision of A499 - 89(2008) Standard Specification for Steel Bars and Shapes, Carbon Rolled from “T” Rails

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: A499 - 89(2008)

Developed by Subcommittee: A01.15 | Committee A01 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK46300

    1. Rationale

The reference to the open-hearth and Bessemer process was removed from (Section 7.1) since both these processes are no longer used. The term Workmanship in the title of Section 10 was dropped since this section has no reference to Workmanship. Due to the supply of heavier/higher mechanical property rails a Grade 70 and Grade 80 were added to Table 1 Mechanical Requirements (see the Grade 70 and 80 as listed in a new recently issued similar type shape specification i.e. A1075 Standard Specification for Flanged Steel U-Channel Posts). A footnote was added to Table 6 to add clarification to shape measurement.
