ASTM WK46274

New Test Method for Determination of Perfluorinated Compounds in Soil by Multiple Reaction Monitoring Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS)

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D34.01.06 | Committee D34 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

This procedure covers the quick, cheap, reliable and effective method for extraction and analysis of selected perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) (perfluoroalkyl carboxylates, perfluoroalkyl sulfonates, and fluorotelomer acids) in soil by solvent extraction followed by analysis using liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry. The analytes are extracted with methanol:water (50:50) under basic condition (pH ~ 9-10 adjusted with ammonium hydroxide), filtered, and then acidified with acetic acid (pH ~3-4) and analyzed by liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry.

Standard method for the analysis of PFCs in soils. Land application of biosolids/sludge results in PFC contamination of soils which requires monitoring.

Fast sample preparation, quick analysis, ASTM soils, survey,

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
