    1. Scope

    This practice describes the operation and production control of powder bed fusion machines and processes to meet rigid quality standards such as AS9100 and ISO13485. The requirements contained herein are applicable for production components and mechanical test specimens using powder bed fusion (PBF) with both laser and electron beams.

    Currently there are standard specifications for a variety of production materials including Ti 6-4, Ti 6-4 ELI, IN718, and IN625 using PBF. Because of the number of machines capable of processing these materials the practical reality is that often in these specifications agreement between component supplier and purchaser is required, placing much responsibility of the purchaser to be schooled in the technology. WK46188 is an attempt to fill in the gaps in the standard specifications so that a proper transaction can be made.
