Section 7.2.5 requires that Brinell hardness tests be conducted on broken tensile specimens. Due to the small size of these specimens, a Brinell test is awkward, and in the case of very soft material, impossible to perform on the tensile specimen. It is proposed that the manufacturer be given the option to either test the forging itself or the blank from which the tensile test will subsquently be machined.
