    1. Rationale

    S755-14A A task group has been formed to address the phosphorus and sulfur levels in the steel standards covered by Committee A01.02. The goal is to align the levels of these two elements to be consistent with current standard metallurgical processes. While this may result in alignment of ASTM standards with other international standards covering similar steels, this would be a byproduct of the changes rather than the impetus for the changes. The task group has proposed a level of 0.030% maximum for each element for plate materials greater than 15 in width. Phosphorus and sulfur maximums for shapes, piling, bars, and plates less than or equal to 15 in width remain as they have been previously published.
