The high chair subcommittee has been reviewing the high chair standard in preparation for the standard to be adopted as the basis for a new federal rule. During this review the subcommittee noted that the weight for the stability test was not defined and based on input from manufacturers and testing laboratories found that variations in the test mass design was believed to be a source of variation in the test results obtained. The subcommittee has worked to define the test mass to be used with the intent of achieving better consistency and repeatability in the test as well as to accommodate newer designs that have passive crotch restraints now required by the standard.
