ASTM WK45908

Revision of D5293 - 10e1 Standard Test Method for Apparent Viscosity of Engine Oils and Base Stocks Between –5 and –35°C Using Cold-Cranking Simulator

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: D5293 - 14

Developed by Subcommittee: D02.07 | Committee D02 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK45908

    1. Rationale

Revise the nominal viscosity of the CL calibration standards. Currently these do not offer a uniform distribution over the viscosity range of the instrument. The proposed revision would alter the nominal viscosity values to provide a uniform distribution. The advantage to the user will be a more robust instrument calibration. Additionally there are some minor changes in table that provides the user with guidance on selecting the viscosity standards to use. Update unit expressions so they are consistent with current style requirements. As a result of the first subcommittee ballot, this item now includes a change in title and scope changing -5 C to -10 C. -5 C is being dropped as it is no longer referenced in active specifications.
