ASTM WK45799

New Guide for Gas Adsorption Measurements Employing Physisorption at Cryogenic Temperatures

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D32.01 | Committee D32 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK45799

    1. Scope

BET surface area and pore size measurement: Sample preparation, experimental conditions, pitfalls, troubleshooting, good practice.

Individual existing standards address very specific issues including calculations, but there is no general guideline addressing experimental issues that can affect gas sorption measurements, especially those that might be done not according to the narrow scope of existing standards. The guide would be used by labs to ensure a single "good practice" so that the many variables associated with these types of measurements can be addressed from a common point of reference.

    Keywords

isotherm, sample preparation, gas sorption, adsorption, desorption

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
