ASTM WK45677

New Practice for Soft Armor Test Item Environmental Conditioning by Tumbling

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: E54.04 | Committee E54 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

This practice applies to the environmental conditioning of soft body armor test items. No ballistic testing of armor is covered in this practice. This practice is designed to subject test items to conditions that are intended to provide some indication of the test item ability to withstand conditions of heat, moisture, and mechanical wear (folding and abrasion) that might be encountered during wear.

This standard captures the procedures and apparatus currently used for conditioning of armor according to NIJ Standard 0101.06 (2008). This standard is currently being revised, and these procedures may change in the future. This ASTM standard will be able to archive the current conditioning guidelines for future use.
