ASTM WK45677

New Practice for Environmental Conditioning of Flexible Body Armor

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: F23.25 | Committee F23 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

1.1 This practice applies to the environmental conditioning of flexible body armor. No ballistic testing of armor is covered in this practice. 1.2 This practice is designed to subject test armors to conditions that are intended to provide some indication of the armors ability to withstand conditions of heat, moisture, and mechanical wear (folding and abrasion) that might be encountered during wear. This practice does not predict the service life of the vest nor does it simulate an exact period of time in the field.

This standard captures the procedures and apparatus currently used for conditioning of armor according to NIJ Standard 0101.06 (2008). This standard is currently being revised, and these procedures may change in the future. This ASTM standard will be able to archive the current conditioning guidelines for future use.
