ASTM WK45660

New Specification for Wax-Modified Asphalt Used in Roofing

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D08.03 | Committee D08 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

This specification covers two types of asphaltic products intended for use in built-up roof construction, construction of some modified bitumen systems, construction of bituminous water retarder systems, for adhering fleece backed single ply roof membranes, and for adhering insulation boards used in various types of roof systems. The products are unique in having significantly lower application temperatures compared to standard asphalts used in roofing. Because the application temperatures are so low it is possible and desirable to also lower the maximum kettle temperature. Both reductions in temperature are beneficial for lowering worker exposure to asphalt fume, reducing air emissions, and also for saving energy. The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.

11.1 Asphalt, modified asphalt, asphalt fumes, air emissions, built-up roof, roofing, Equiviscous temperature, softening point, viscosity.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
