Recently, a change was made to C578 requiring flexural testing to be run in multiple directions. This makes sense for the majority of types in the standard which are produced in large buns or boards. However, Type XIII is produced in sizes and shapes different from all the other types and it is used in applications different from most other types (pipe, tank, and equipment insulation). This makes it difficult to conduct the flex test in the multiple directions. This revision would exclude Type XIII from this new flex testing methodology.
