Based on work and industry feedback over the past few years, it has become clear that the use of the simplified appendices can result in non-conservative loads for certain, common LSA aircraft designs. This initial ballot adds in a number of constraints on the use of the simplified appendices. These constraints are largely in alignment with those in 14 CFR Part 23. For aircraft that fall within these constraint, the appendices should provide a reasonable and conservative set of loads for structural analysis and/or testing. Aircraft designs that do not meet these constraints cannot use the simplified methods.
