ASTM WK45529

New Test Methods for Determination of Modulus and Force at Specified Elongation of Untwisted Aramid Yarns

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D13.19 | Committee D13 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK45529

    1. Scope

1.1 This test method covers the tensile testing of aramid yarns. This test method includes testing procedure only and includes no specifications or tolerances. 1.2 Units--The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the standard. 1.3 This test method includes the following test methods: Force at Specified Elongation (FASE) (Section 14), Linear Density (Section 10), and Modulus (Section 15). 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

There is currently no test method for force at specified elongation testing for aramids. This standard also shows the correlation between twisted and untwisted yarn values.
