    As many of you know, since 2010 when ASTM E384-08a1 Standard Test Method for Microindentation Hardness of Materials was expanded to include macro-Vickers requirements, and ASTM E92 - 82(2003)e2 was simultaneously withdrawn, some members of Subcommittees ASTM E04.05 and E28.06 have expressed dissatisfaction with the resulting ASTM E384 Standard Test Method for Knoop and Vickers Hardness of Materials. At a joint meeting of ASTM E28.06 and E04.05 in Indianapolis in May 2013, there was an agreement to reinstate, revise and expand ASTM E92, under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee E28.06, to cover the basic testing requirements for all Vickers and Knoop hardness testing as well as the verification and calibration requirements for the testing machines, indenters and reference blocks. It was also agreed to simultaneously revise ASTM E384, under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee E04.05, to only cover microindentation testing and to add expanded testing guidance while referencing the new E92 for the Vickers and Knoop verification and calibration requirements.
