    Active Standard: C1063 - 14d

Developed by Subcommittee: C11.03 | Committee C11 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Rationale

Rationale: Note: Only the language in bold/red is new to this section. At present, inch stub nails, power or powder actuated mechanical fasteners or screws are the only acceptable methods of fastening accessories. The fact is that other than screws, all the other fasteners will create a blowout if placed within about 1 inches from the edge of a cmu. So, the typical field solution is to use 3/8 inch stub nails, which, of course, do not meet the requirements of Section 7.10.5. Adding this language to that Section would then grant approval of attaching all metal plaster base with adhesive, which I dont believe is a good idea. Placing it here allows for this alternative accessories on solid bases only.
