ASTM WK45090

New Test Method for Wet and Dry Phase Filterability of Lubricating Oils

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D02.N0 | Committee D02 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

The test method is designed to evaulate the filterability properties of lubricating oils dry and contaminated with water. Filtration is key during the operation of equipment to remove fine particles and the fluid can not cause back pressure to the system causing the system to be starved of lubricant.

The current method used in the ISO standards is very man-power intensive and has issues with various fluids being a visual based method. This method would adapt the method and convert it to a gravimetric based method while still maintaining the ability to conduct it visually. This should alleviate some bias in the measurements and reduce the variability of the overall method.
