As a follow-up to the discussions that took place at the June 2013 SC8.D meeting, it was determined that the text in Appendix X1 (Relative Bias to Test Method D323) in D6377 would need to be revised to include additional information and clarification to provide users with further guidance, especially in regards to the handling and analysis of live crudes that exist in the rapidly expanding North American crude oil market, such as Bakken Crude Oil. Until recently the test method of choice for crude oils (driven by regulations and tradition) was ASTM D323 but with the relatively recent announcement from the EPA regarding the use of D6377, the D6377 method needs to be updated accordingly to ensure proper interpretation and applicability of the information in X1. In addition, updates to the Terminology section are being made.
