ASTM WK44923

Revision of A789 / A789M - 13ae1 Standard Specification for Seamless and Welded Ferritic/Austenitic Stainless Steel Tubing for General Service

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: A789 / A789M - 14

Developed by Subcommittee: A01.10 | Committee A01 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Rationale

ASTM A789 and A790 show a maximum carbon content of .05 for UNS S32760 while A240, A276, A182, A479 and A473 list the maximum for this grade as .030. We have been unable to identify a valid technical reason for the difference. Elevated carbon levels in duplex stainless steels tend to be detrimental to their performance. Hence, we propose to reduce the maximum carbon content for UNS S32760 to .030 max. in A789 and A790.
