    1. Rationale

    Based on work that was presented in subcommittee ASTM C24.30 over the past few years, it was found that a specific chemistry of sealant had better performance when glass and aluminum substrates were cleaned with one solvent compared to another. During this voluntary study it was also shown that other sealant chemistries had no difference in performance when glass and aluminum substrates were cleaned with different solvents. Based upon this work the suggestion has been made to report the substrate cleaning method in the report section of ASTM C719. In addition, the verbiage regarding standard conditions is brought into alignment with C24 guidelines.
