ASTM WK44760

Revision of E662 - 13d Standard Test Method for Specific Optical Density of Smoke Generated by Solid Materials

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: E662 - 14

Developed by Subcommittee: E05.21 | Committee E05 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Rationale

Water cooled heat flux meters are available for measuring the heat flux in a smoke density chamber. This was first described in a NIST publication (NISTIR 4917) in 1992, and has been permitted as an option for several years for smoke chamber testing to FAA requirements in the FAR. This ballot adds a section to permit this alternate heat flux measurement device, and revises the section on furnace calibration accordingly.
