ASTM WK44732

New Test Method for Treatment of Test Panels Used in Chemical Contamination and Decontamination Studies

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: E54.03 | Committee E54 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

The purpose of this test method is to specify how test panels, regardless of size or configuration, used in chemical contamination and decontamination studies are treated throughout the complete test cycle.

Decontamination, in its simplest form, is the process of reducing contamination from a material of interest. This method is customizable to enable the evaluation of a wide range of decontamination technologies including reactive liquids, solids and vapors; liquid and solid physical removal technologies; and accelerated weathering processes by standardizing how the test panels used in the decontamination testing are prepared and processed pre- and post- application of the decontamination process being evaluated. These technologies can be evaluated with or without pre- and post-decontamination rinse processes. Chemical warfare agents, chemical warfare agent simulants, and any other chemical contaminant can be used with this method. Test panels of individual materials, multiple materials, and complex materials can be used with this method. Users engaged in laboratory decontamination studies would need this test method.
