ASTM WK44527

Revision of D5235 - 13 Standard Test Method for Microscopical Measurement of Dry Film Thickness of Coatings on Wood Products

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: D5235 - 14

Developed by Subcommittee: D01.52 | Committee D01 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Rationale

1.Update the method of coating thickness measurement based on computer programs available for image analysis today 2.The need for a method of specimen preparation other than sanding because soft coating films frequently used for exterior wood have a tendency to smear when sanded 3.The need for revision of suggestions regarding wood/coating interface borderline interpretation based on typical coating/wood interface images 4.The need for reporting that includes more information about the sample tested and data obtained from computer image analysis of the coating thickness measurement.
