ASTM WK44367

Revision of D3867 - 09 Standard Test Methods for Nitrite-Nitrate in Water

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: D3867 - 09

Developed by Subcommittee: D19.05 | Committee D19 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK44367

    1. Rationale

The standard requires chloroform as a preservative. EPA will not approve methods that use chloroform. This revision removes the chloroform and uses sulfuric acid at pH 2 similar to other EPA approved nitrate/nitrite methods. This revision also modifies the ammonium chloride reagent to be buffered at pH 8.5 and adds an EDTA complex reagent. These revisions make the standard similar to EPA 353.2
