There is a growing requirement to measure the hydrogen sulfide content of crude oil due to transport, commerce and health and safety concerns. D7621 measures the hydrogen sulfide content of marine and distillate fuels in the liquid phase as this best describes the potential of the fuel to release hydrogen sulfide into vapor. This method currently does not have the scope or procedure to measure the higher levels of hydrogen sulfide that crude oils can contain. It is proposed to revise the test method to include a procedure to cover these elevated levels.
