    1. Rationale

    A user provided data that showed that WC9 at 900F (482C) for 6 years became brittle. The material had an FATT that shifted up 125F (70C), well above room temperature. The user requested that the J factor for temper embrittlement be added to the specification with a maximum value of 180. The user presented data that provides assurance that WC9 castings with J factors below 180 would be less susceptible to embrittlement. The same data demonstrated that application of the same requirement to WC6 castings was unnecessary. This action adds the supplementary requirement to A217/A217M for use with WC0. The language of the SR is similar to the SR on the same subject in A387/A387M.
