Work Item: ASTM WK44110 - Revision of A675 / A675M - 03(2009) Standard Specification for Steel Bars, Carbon, Hot-Wrought, Special Quality, Mechanical Properties

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: A675 / A675M - 03(2009)

Developed by Subcommittee: A01.15 | Committee A01 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Rationale

Sec 5.1 Change - Remove open hearth from list of primary steelmaking processes Rational There are no more open hearth steelmaking facilities in the world. This change has been completed in the structural specifications in A01.02. Sec 5.2 Change Remove reference to other than killed steels. Replace with statement that The steel shall be killed Rational Most of the structural grades have removed references to steels other than killed steel, as those steelmaking practices are no longer used. This change has been completed in the structural specifications in A0 1.02. Sec 7.1.1.2 and 6.4 Change - Remove both of these sections. Rational The title of the specification is Steel Bars, Carbon, Hot-wrought, Special Quality, Mechanical Properties , it does not make sense that the specification excludes testing of shapes with cross sections less than 1 in sq. Most users would not accept material without mechanical test results. If section 7.1.1.2 is removed then section 6.4 is no longer necessary.
