A five-year review of D4756 showed the need to revise section 10 on installation of vertical siding. That section describes use of a vertical starter strip to secure the first panel of siding. Vertical starter strips are no longer readily available. Instead, installers use utility trim (undersill trim) inserted into the receiving pocket to hold the cut edge of the first siding panel as described in the Vinyl Siding Institutes Vinyl Siding Installation Manual. The proposed revisions reflect current recommended industry practice and the procedure in the VSI Manual. In addition, a change to 1.1 is being made in response to a comment on an earlier ballot to made reference to the requirements of building codes.
