D893-12 currently stipulates the use of an explosion-proof oven for drying centrifuge tubes containing 3 mL or less of the supernatent liquid per instructions listed in Sec. 9.1.2. However, for small sample sets, tube drying can also be facilitated in a safe and suitable manner using Class A or Safety-Rated ovens as an alternative to the higher cost, larger sized explosion-proof ovens mandated in D893. This work item revises D893-12 editorially to incorporate the usage of Class A or Safety-Rated ovens for drying centrifuge tubes after the supernatent decantation steps outlined in the test procedure.
