ASTM WK43812

Revision of E336 - 11 Standard Test Method for Measurement of Airborne Sound Attenuation between Rooms in Buildings

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: E336 - 14

Developed by Subcommittee: E33.03 | Committee E33 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK43812

    1. Rationale

There is concern that E336 has become difficult to follow as it provides for both sound isolation and apparent sound insulation measurements. It is proposed to reorganize certain sections of the standard to separate the parts related to different kinds of tests to make the document easier to follow. There is a need to clarify measurement spaces for corridors and other small spaces too small to measure ATL, to allow measurement of NR, and to define the extent of area along the length of a corridor for measurement. The report requirements need clarification and possibly modification.
