This ballot originated as a revision of section 7.9 Self-sealability (Head of Water Test) to replace the nail seal test with a reference to ASTM D7349 Test Method for Determining the Capability of Roofing and Waterproofing Materials to Seal Around Fasteners. However, in the current version of D1970, section 7.9 includes tests that evaluate ability of the underlayment sheet to seal around nails, waterproof integrity of lap seams, and waterproof integrity after low temperature flexibility. Therefore, the original intention expanded to include separation of the three tests in section 7.9 into different sections along with provision of missing details for the waterproof integrity of lap seams and waterproof integrity after low temperature flexibility tests. The ballot item that follows consists of five sections. First, D7349 is added to the referenced documents section. Second, existing section 7.9 is replaced with a new section 7.9 that references D7349. Third, a new section 7.10 is added to provide a stand-alone test to evaluate waterproofing integrity of lap seams with additional test details. Fourth, a new Figure 1 is inserted to accompany new section 7.10. Finally, the portion of section 7.9 that deals with waterproof integrity after low temperature flexibility is moved into section 7.6 (Low Temperature Flexibility) and expanded to provide additional test details.
