Active Standard: F1798 - 97(2008)
This standard was last approved in 2008 and requires balloting action. It was pointed out at the May 2013 subcommittee meeting that this document is titled Standard Guide. According to the ASTM Blue Book Form and Style for ASTM Standards, however, a Guide is intended to be a compendium of information or series of options that does not recommend a specific course of action. A Test Method, in contrast, is a definitive procedure that produces a test result. F1798-97(2008) contains definitive procedures for producing test results related to the static and fatigue properties of interconnection mechanisms and subassemblies used in spinal implants. As such, we propose that the title of the document should be changed from Guide to Test Method, and the word guide as it appears in the Scope should be replaced with test method.
