E190 should be revised to accommodate more of the welding practices seen in place today. The standard has not been revised since 1992, and there are several solid state welding processes used for plates and pipes that perhaps were not as common 20 years ago. This standard should include discussion of these weld methods as well. The method does not necessarily require revision in general, but the language and some of the figures of the standard can be revised to consider friction welds, ERW, ultrasonic, and other processes that do not result in the typical face and root features that are seen with fusion welds.
