Active Standard: A494 / A494M - 13
S and P levels in this specification are not representative of the materials that are actually produced today. At these maximum levels there are detrimental effects on material properties such as toughness and corrosion resistance. The Steel Founders Society of America (SFSA) collected a large amount of data from sand and investment casting producers and subjected it to rigorous statistical analysis. Committee A01.18 established a TG to review the data and make recommendations for levels that do represent current production. This action revises the S and P limits in A494/A494M for grades CZ100, M25S, M30C and M35-1 based on this data and the TG recommendations.
