ASTM WK42957

New Specification for Titanium and Titanium Alloy Forging Stock

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: B10.01 | Committee B10 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK42957

    1. Scope

This specification will cover as-forged titanium and titanium alloy material usually produced from ingot intended for further hot working as follows. Typical product form will be in rounds, round corner squares, octagons, etc. Product would normally be sold to on a weight basis possible with some restriction on length to diameter ratio to permit upsetting as a first forging step.

This is an intermediate product to fill a gap between B977 Titanium Ingot and B348 Titanium Billet. The product will be sold based on ingot chemistry with no mechanical testing (unless purchaser specifies a capability test). this specification would be used by forging houses to purchase intermediate product, by ingot producers to sell intermediate product. It is anticipated that additional requirements and options would evolve with use such as the temperatures to be used for a specific portion of the hot working.
