ASTM WK42919

New Practice for Determination of Metal Purity Based on Elastic Constant Measurements Derived from Resonant Ultrasound Spectroscopy

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: E07.06 | Committee E07 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

This Standard Practice describes a procedure for determining the purity of metals through the use of resonant ultrasound spectroscopy methods. The procedure is intended for use with instruments capable of exciting and recording whole body resonant states within metallic raw materials. It is used to distinguish samples of relatively pure materials from those containing contaminants which could change the material properties or value of the sample.

    metal purity; contamination; resonance inspection
