The current ASTM procedure includes two options for calibration of the permeability cell used in the determination of the specific surface area. Option #1 includes determination by physical measurement and option #2 is a mercury displacement method. It is proposed to remove option #2 from the standard due to possible harmful health effects from exposure to mercury vapors during the calibration. In the Referenced Documents, Section 2.2, the Britsh Standard BS 4359 needs the date changed to 1982.
