In Section 8, it is not clear as to what faces of a brick shall be free from chips or cracks. While the intent is to only have requirements on surfaces that are exposed, the language does not clearly identify those surfaces. The term finished face is used since it is the surface that should be examined. Finished face is also defined in ASTM C1232: face, finished, nany surface(s) of a manufactured masonry unit intended by the manufacturer to be exposed to view. The proposed wording is also consistent with other C15.02 standards.
