ASTM WK42789

New Test Method for Measuring Visible Spectrum of Asphaltenes in Heavy Fuel Oils and Crude Oils by Spectroscopy in a Microfluidic Platform

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D02.14 | Committee D02 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

1.1 This test method covers the quantitative measurement, either in the laboratory or in the field, of visible spectrum of asphaltenes and maltenes in gas oil, diesel fuel, fuel oils, residual fuel oils, lubricating oil, bitumen, and crude oil using microfluidics and spectrographic techniques. 1.2 This test method is limited to asphaltene-containing oil with asphaltene content less than 15 % by mass. 1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Useful in the petroleum industry providing more rapid determinations of aspahltene content.

residual fuel oils; crude oils; asphaltene; asphaltene content; asphaltene spectroscopy; microfluidics, Lab-on-a-chip
